A study performed at the College of William and Mary in Virginia found that naturally fermented foods such as dill pickles, sauerkraut, and kimchi offer more than just a tasty snack to lovers of all things sour. These foods act on the stomach to give the body a major boost of serotonin, an important neurochemical responsible for managing our moods. In fact, most pharmaceutical antidepressants work to boost serotonin levels in the brain.
