A new study reports numerous epigenetic changes in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. They observed changes to "MAPK pathway that is involved in any number of responses to environmental stresses and inflammatory cytokines. In addition, they found changes to Il-10, Il-17, and Il-8 which are important immunoregulators. The AMPK pathway, which is important for cellular ATP homeostasis was also effected. Several other signaling genes showed changes including in the NF-Kb pathway and TGF." (1) Epigenetics are variations in phenotypes caused by environmental stimuli turning genes on and off.
