Drinking Coffee May Reduce Chances Of Parkinson's And Alzheimer's!

Approximately 500 billion cups of coffee are consumed worldwide each year.

A new study out of the Krembil Brain Institute, part of the Krembil Research Institute, suggests there could be more to that morning jolt of goodness than a boost in energy and attention. Drinking coffee may also protect you against developing both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Read more...

New Drug May Reduce Brain Cell Death In Alzheimer's Disease!

"One of the hallmark traits of Alzheimer's disease, a debilitating disorder marked by memory deficits and general cognitive decline, is the accumulation in the brain of a protein called b-amyloid. These proteins form "plaques" and bind to unique proteins on the surface of brain cells called receptors, causing widespread cell death. "

Controlling Microglia Activity May Benefit Those With Neurodegenerative Disease!

"A group of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) investigators is proposing that targeting immune checkpoints—molecules that regulate the activity of the immune system—in immune cells called microglia could reduce the inflammatory aspects of important neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)." Exercise May Clean Up Brain Junk From Alzheimer's Disease!

"For the 50 million individuals worldwide ailing from Alzheimer’s disease, the announcements by pharmaceutical giants earlier this year that they will end research on therapeutics were devastating. The news is even more devastating considering projections that 100 million more people will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease across the globe by 2050, all potentially without a medical means to better their quality of life." Read more...

Biological Basis For Depression, Anxiety And Sleep Disorders Suggested!

"UC San Francisco researchers, in collaboration with the unique Brazilian Biobank for Aging Studies (BBAS) at the University of São Paulo, have shown that the earliest stages of the brain degeneration associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) are linked to neuropsychiatric symptoms including anxiety, depression, loss of appetite, and sleep disturbances. Alzheimer's Disease May Be a Problem With the Brain's Waste System!

"In Alzheimer's disease, our brains accumulate molecular waste; excess buildup of proteins that could become toxic and disrupt communication between brain cells. A new study asks whether the endolysosomal system, which takes care of cellular waste, may be involved in the development of this condition." Read more...

Study: Blueberries May Fight Against Alzheimer's

Blueberries are a popular fruit, easily added to cereals, salads and desserts or eaten as a sweet treat in their own right. They are also known by some as a "superfood," containing a wide variety of nutrients that offer protection against conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Now, researchers believe that they may have a part to play in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

Long-term Consumption of Western Diet Contributes to Development of Alzheimer's!

Recent research has established associations between certain environmental factors, including eating a western diet and being sedentary, with an increased susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease. In fact, it is estimated that a combination of diet and inactivity contributes to as many as 25% of Alzheimer's cases.

Coffee May Reduce the Risk of Alzheimer's But Not Cognitive Decline or Dementia!

A recent study published in December, 2015 showed that consumption of coffee may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. According to the analysis of 11 studies, results showed a reductions of Alzheimer's disease with consumption of coffee. However, the results did not show any correlation between coffee consumption and cognitive decline and dementia. More studies are needed to identify whether there is any benefit of coffee consumption on cognitive decline and dementia.
