Olive Oil and Fish Oil May Protects Against Physical Effects Caused by Pollution!


 
A research team has found that that olive oil and fish oil may prevent muscle breakdown in response to air pollution. In addition, preliminary finding show that fish oil may protect against higher cholesterol levels caused by air pollution.

Some Patients With Depression May Benefit from Omega 3 Supplementation!


 
A recent study shows an association between oxidative stress biomarkers and depression. It was also demonstrated that in those with depression they had lower levels of omega 3 fatty acids. Oxidative stress is a state where there is an imbalance between reactive oxygen species from cellular metabolism and the ability to detoxify the intermediates or repair the damage. From the results of this study, it was concluded that oxidative stress levels may be used to determine who would benefit from omega 3 for depression.

Study: Insufficient Evidence for Omega-3 Heart Benefits!




There is insufficient evidence for a secondary preventive effect of omega-3 fatty acid supplements against overall cardiovascular events among patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, according to new research. However industry has said the analysis of previous study is ‘limited’ and ‘inaccurate’.

Pregnant Woman Not Getting Enough Omega-3 Fatty Acids!





"The European Commission and the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL) specifically recommends that pregnant and lactating  consume a minimum of 200 mg DHA per day. The team found that the majority of participants, despite a high level of education and income, were not meeting these recommendations for omega-3 LCPUFA during pregnancy and lactation."

The Touted Hype of Fish Oil Is Losing Its Luster!


But what does the science say? A systematic review and meta-analysis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, highlighted in my video Is Fish Oil Just Snake Oil? looked at all the best “randomized clinical trials evaluating the effects of omega-3’s on lifespan, cardiac death, sudden death, heart attack, and stroke.” The studies told the subjects to either eat more oily fish or to take fish oil capsules. What did the study find? Overall, the researchers found no protective benefit for all-cause mortality, heart disease mortality, sudden cardiac death, heart attack, or stroke.

Omega 3 Fats are Nrf2 Activators - A Key Ingredient to a Healthy Diet!






It is believed the Western diet wholly or partially contributes to disease. "Sixty-five percent of Americans over 20 years of age are obese. 64 million people suffer from one or more type of cardiovascular disease." (Cordain) Many experts believe that one cause of the American diet's contribution to cardiovascular disease is the imbalance of fats. More specifically, a higher ratio of saturated fat and Omega 6 to omega 3 which are good fats.  Generally, the higher the consumption of omega-3 fats to other fats is correlated to a lower incidence of heart disease. (Dhalla) A recent study has shown that EPA omega 3 polyunsaturated fats protect against oxidative stress which contributes to heart disease. This is achieved by the EPA activating Nrf2 and Ho-1.
