Compound Found In Breast and Cows Milk Neccessary for Neonates Gut Microbiome!

 
Researchers have pinpointed the compound in breast milk that supplies the nourishment needed for the development of a neonates' gut microbiota, and they have shown that it can be obtained from cow's milk. The findings are published in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology.

Soy Protein May Limit Fat Development by Western Diet By Altering Gut Biome!



 
As many of you know I am not a fan of soy. I do not like the fact that it may activate genes that are active in breast cancer. However, I report on both the good and the bad so I will let you make your own decision. In a recent study, it was shown that soy protein may "diversify" the gut microbiome more than milk proteins. In addition, it was shown to have lipid lowering properties. We have previously noted that the "Western diet" alters the gut biome. After six weeks of soy protein supplements, soy altered the Western diet biome more so than milk protein. As we know, the Western diet has been identified as one of the most important factors contributing to obesity. This study demonstrates that soy protein may limit adiposity of the Western diet but altering the gut biome.

Eating More Chocolate May Benefit the Gut Microbiome!




A recent in pigs has demonstrated that cocoa phenols has the ability to increase commensal bacteria in the intestine. Recent studies have shown that cocoa phenols may have health benefits such as being a cancer preventative, prevent heart disease and help fight aging. The researchers of this study conclude that some of the benefits of cocoa phenols may stem from its activities in the intestinal tract and influencing it immunity.
