First Link Between Diabetes And BPA At Levels That Were Considered Safe!

"The controversial study suggests that BPA exposure deemed safe by the feds could alter the amount of insulin released and elevate people's type 2 diabetes risk." Read more...

Alternative Plastics Cause Reproductive Problems In Mice!

"Twenty years ago, researchers made the accidental discovery that the now infamous plastics ingredient known as bisphenol A or BPA had inadvertently leached out of plastic cages used to house female mice in the lab, causing a sudden increase in chromosomally abnormal eggs in the animals. Now, the same team is back to report in the journal Current Biology on September 13 that the array of alternative bisphenols now used to replace BPA in BPA-free bottles, cups, cages, and other items appear to come with similar problems for their mice." Read more...

Exposure to BPA in Utero May Increase Risk for Childhood Obesity!

Prenatal exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical used in plastic water bottles and canned food, is associated with measures of obesity in children at age 7, according to researchers. 94 percent of pregnant women studied had detectable levels of BPA. The researchers are the first to show associations between prenatal exposure to BPA and measures of body fat in their school-aged children.

BPA In Plastic Disrupts Sexual Function In Turtles!

"Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used in food storage products and resins that line plastic beverage containers. Often, aquatic environments become reservoirs for BPA, and turtle habitats are affected. Now, a collaboration of researchers has determined that BPA can alter a turtle's sexual differentiation. Scientists are concerned findings could indicate harmful effects on environmental and human health."

Common Sponge Soaks Up Contaminant BPA!

"Scientists have discovered that a cheap and common sponge they use to clean surfaces and equipment in their lab has a very high capacity to absorb bisphenol A (BPA)."

Low-dose Bisphenol A (BPA) Exposure Effects Can Last for Three Generations!

Bisphenol A is used in plastics and resins.
When scientists exposed pregnant mice to levels of bisphenol A equivalent to those considered safe in humans, three generations of female mouse offspring experienced significant reproductive problems, including declines in fertility, sexual maturity and pregnancy success.
